Re: Predictions 2003
Just a few comments about your recent article 'Predictions 2003' in SPIDER's December issue. Operation Badar is meant to provide cutting edge IT education to masses. I believe it's a good thing considering the importance of such technologies (i.e. Web services) and the poor state IT institutions are in general. It's producing results in the form of certified professionals and top quality software. There is nothing wrong in healthy criticism but I believe one should not discourage such educational initiatives.

Reference to your reader feedback on hacking, I like the idea of teaching network security and ethical hacking to masses for the purpose of user defence in this networked world. We got to make our critical networks secure the way we secure buildings and regions. SPIDER has supported this idea too. Your columns in general are critical and thought provoking. Keep it up!

Back to the basics
I'm your regular reader and I have gained a lot of knowledge from your magazine. In my opinion, your magazine provides good Net knowledge. But it does not provide basic information to newbies. Can you please start a segment for new Net users?

I subscribed to SPIDER two years back. I have found that SPIDER is losing its traditional way of introducing the Web. Do you plan to change the design of your contents?

New readers overlook the fact that SPIDER has covered basic user level knowledge of the Internet over the course of the past four years. Our language and approach towards Internet issues is still fairly simple, despite reader feedback requesting us to become more techie. If you can pinpoint issues and concepts you feel SPIDER can cover on an elementary basis, please write to us.

Re: Cricket 2002 bugs
This is with reference to Rahim Rattani's e-mail regarding Cricket 2002 appearing in your December 2002 issue. I disagree with his point of view on the bugs he has reported. I have been playing Cricket 2002 for the past few months and have yet to observe the bugs Rahim mentioned. Reference the first bug he mentioned, may I suggest that there could be a problem with his graphic card? The only bug in my copy of the game is that the umpire signals a four whereas it is a sixer. In my view, Rahim's criticism is not justified.

Or it could be that Rahim's (pirated) copy of the game carries more bugs than yours.

Top 5 Ratings
This is with reference to your Ratings Guide appearing under the Top 5 URLs section. What do you mean by 'Content'? You probably meant quality of content or may be quantity, in either case its ambiguous. Then design, now there are so many types of designs on websites. Interaction design, interface design, information design and experience design but using rule of thumb for Pakistani Web designers it should be Visual design (superficial layer of any website). Links is another ambiguous term. What do you mean by links? It should have been navigation because gurus and pundits like Nielsen, Tedd Nelsen, Peter Morville et al. have considered navigation to be the single most factor effecting users' dismay on part of a website.

The ratings guide gives our general assessment of the website in a simple, short manner for people who might not be interested in reading the entire site review. We do not ignore navigation since it forms an important part of our decision on the site's Design.

Re: VoIP issue
Your recent coverstory was certainly an excellent piece of work; well thought out and researched. Infact, this is just what the IT industry requires ... a wake up call to PTA! Lets hope it has some positive effect on PTA and PTCL.
