  • Nfoods.com
    www.nfoods.com
E-zine for the youth After championing the airwaves with a series of celebrity cooking shows, National Foods is looking to repeat its success with a new website targeted at consumers. Like the multinational brigade, even local companies are promoting a responsible, informative role in the media to satisfy a growing sense of consumer awareness in Pakistan. Nfoods.com is a good step in this direction. Neatly designed for speedy access to a site loaded with content, Nfoods.com offers potential for both cooking novice and experts useful. You might expect NFL to promote recipes, facts about nutrition and the company itself, but finding a chef online is a surprise. You can always post a query to save a recipe from complete disaster without having to register at the site. In the pipeline, are features such as meeting food experts (you can suggest your own name as one) and a promotions section that should include some giveaways. If you or your household cooking expert has missed the Ramadan cooking series, you can find all the recipes from the TV show online under the Promotions section. While food lovers might flock to the site for the love of a recipe or two, it is interesting to note that National Foods is emphasizing more on consumer interaction with the company. Don't just expect a ghost e-mail address on their feedback page; one is bound to find the 'Interact with NFL' page extremely helpful in terms of accessing information about products or lodging a complaint about them. A love of food and well-designed content earned this effort by NFL and BitsOnline our number one spot.

Tribute to a visionary Not all sites require a great deal of interaction on your behalf with the exception of a click here and a click there. Every now and then you need something purely for your viewing pleasure. Make sure your screen resolutions are adjusted as instructed on the frontpage and your browser is loaded with the appropriate plug-in ammo before you log on. Created by artist Asif R Naqvi, this one is definitely a sight for sore eyes. This NCA graduate is clearly impressed with the Romantic age. His website blends a love of classic Renaissance with a zany sense of humor. Start off with a visit to his friend's gallery tucked under the Just Kidding option. Asif is introduces and associates his friends with concepts, words, statues, numerical figures and other neat tricks that make it fun to see his online album. You can then scroll over to Asif's profile and investigate his foray into art, photography, and software design. The photo gallery has an excellent selection of scenic snapshots, portraits and architecture on film which you can open in another window and view while enjoying a virtual walk alongside Asif's paintings. Take our word for it, even a click at Asif's CV can give you some abstract ideas on creative writing and presentation.

  • M Z Associates
    www.mzassociates.net
Ode to the future Karachi-based M Z Associates have added a good contribution to the limited number of Pakistani law resources online. Their corporate website offers a directory service, legal details of principle tax laws, and a chance to read some interesting lawyer profiles. Few would rate the site high on design but while the portal-look has been done to death, you can find your way around the site fairly easily through the drop down menus on top. We recommend having a good look at the Income Tax section which includes a holiday calendar, filing schedule and other bits that might save you a preliminary trip to a lawyer. The M Z web directory is extremely good if you are looking for a legal eagle within Sindh. You can search for a lawyer according to their national affiliation, area of expertise and category. We found this an excellent source for Karachi. Even a search for a grey area such as Intellectual Property revealed a result. Once you find a lawyer, the website offers details about his or her affiliations, experience, and contact details. If this directory alone expands to incorporate lawyers across Pakistan, M Z have a hit on their hands. The site invites lawyers to add their URLs.

  • The Sindh.com
    www.thesindh.com
Iqbaliyat For a website promoting one organization, the Sindh National Council is collecting a vast array of content for people interested in Sindh's history and culture. Divided into four sections, TheSindh.com looks at the province's tradition, governance, services and advances in IT. Available in both Sindhi and English versions, you can find news about the Council as well as the services it has to offer; if you are a resident of Sindh with some information about its geo-physical, culture, history, academia, etc. then send it to the Council who are looking to compile it all online. Its various sections on Sindh's history, literature, and music are up and running but in dire need of additional content. For instance, you can read through an alphabetical listing of the tribes that form the Sindhi dynasty, each accompanied by a brief description. But the Articles section is crying out for constructive help. The directories section currently offers listings for universities, lawyers, and a selection of sites dedicated to Sindh, ranging from entertainment to politics to lifestyles. A separate page is dedicated to diverse Sindhi egroups which you can sift through and seek likeminds from. Sindhi webmasters will find the IT section extremely rewarding with fonts and developer gear bundled together with desktop goodies.

  • Mystiqueasia.com
    www.mystiqueasia.com
Cyber Commune Another shopping site? Yes indeed. While Pakistani surfers experiment with a limited number of services on local e-cards, websites targeting expatriates are booming by the dozen. MystiqueAsia.com is the latest to join the fray. Its niche? Promoting Asian culture in cyberspace by showcasing (and shipping across) the various products that enrich the Indus Valley culture from past to present. Such a theme would sound best if the creators think about substituting the word 'Asia' in their title with 'South Asia' since their range of products only come from the sub-continent. From footwear to leatherwear, MystiqueAsia promises good service and occasional promotions to its customers. The frontpage actually camouflages the number of services the site has on offer and visitors are recommended to click at any of the services to enter the actual site for a detailed tour. As a relative newcomer to the scene, MystiqueAsia needs to enhance its design and content, pick up a trick or two from the Amazons on the Net.
